Objectives and competences

The aim of the course is to familiarise the students dealing with selected texts with the main spiritual and esthetics characteristics of the German literary culture from the period of Enlightenment till classical 'Moderne', with its integration in social (sub)systems as well as to introduce them in literary analysis and intepretation.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Culture and literature: definitions, relations, main forms and characteristic • Survey on literary and cultural development tendencies: defining the subject, methods and aims. • Survey on literary and cultural development tendencies: defining the subject, methods and aims. • Outline of the development of German literature in the period from the late 18th till beginning of 20th century: Ideantional-philosophical and literary-estetic characteristics of the literary periods and movements from elightenment till Naturalism, with accent on relation between literature and other social (sub)systems and in intercultural perspective • Introduction into literary analysis and interpretation of representativ literary works

Learning and teaching methods

• Explanation, • Report, • Debate. The information and communications technology is used for educational purposes in the teaching and learning process.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

• demonstrate knowledge of e basic literary-theoretical concepts • demonstrate knowledge of main literary-historical findings from literary periods and styls in German literature from 18th till 20th century, • analyse the interaction between literary and other social (sub)systems in German speaking countries, • recapitulate basic characteristics of reception of the German literature in Slovene literature and culture from late 18th till beginnig of 20th century, • implement the acquired knowledge on possible methods and techniques of literary analysis and intepretation in research and teaching practice.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

• communication skills (writting skills in a written exam, oral and writting skills in the oral presentation); • use of information technology (seeking information on the Web).

Prerequisits for acceding the course: None. Conditions for prerequisits: Oral presentation is prerequisite to attend the written examination.
