Objectives and competences
The aim of the course is to familiarise the students with main milestones in relation between literature and film from theoretical and historical point of view and provide them with methodological instruments for comparative analysis and interpretation of both fictional narratives considering their specifics, with special accent on paradigmatic German literary films.
Content (Syllabus outline)
? Literature and film as semiotic system and fictional media, forms of literary presence in film
? Intermedial correlations:
- theoretical aspects: genrepoetical and filmtheoretical concepts
- historical aspects: German literary film in European context
? Literary and film esthetic: literary procedures in film and film techniques in literature
? Literary and film narration: means, techniques and strategies
? Analysing and interpretation of paradigmatic literary films in comparison with literary work as well as films with selected topics in intercultural and memorial perspective, considering specifities of both narratives

? Identify interferences between literature and film in German culture in intercultural perspective from the beginning of 20th century till nowdays
? Compare specifics of literary and film narration
? Understand and apply methods and techniques for intermedial analyse of fictional narration
? Understand and apply methods and techniques of intermedial analysis of fictional narrative
? Understand and apply instruments for transferring literary sequence to film and some other modern media
? Identifiy memorial function of different media subsystems with special accent on its inter- and transcultural perspective
