Objectives and competences
To extend students basic skills for understanding sociological texts written in English language, to give them the ability to analyse, understand and critically evaluate scientific texts; to prepare students for writing papers in English language.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Analysis of different sociological texts in the English language (corresponding to the topics covered in other courses), which will include the following :
• Learning sociological terminology
• Analysis of sentence structure and idioms in sociological texts
• Analysis of theoretical and empirical texts
• Presenting and outlining culture-specific sociological discourse(s) within English the language
• Writing short essays and summaries in English
Learning and teaching methods
• Frontal lectures and seminar work
• A/V presentations
• Problem solving in foreign language/Group work paraphrasing of fragments of chosen texts,
• Autonomous preparation of answers to chosen questions
• Group work
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Ability to understand sociological terminology, to be able to express themselves, to analyze and write short texts in English language.
