Objectives and competences

tudents: • get to know basic terms, that were developed in modern sociology and anthropology, • gain review over the basic sociological and anthropological views and theories • gain basic understanding of division in the field of sociology • gain basic understanding of thematizations of social phenomena of childhood • develop the ability of disciplinar and inter- and transdisciplinar thinking

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Physical, cultural and social universals of child and childhood - child as a physical, social and cultural entity - history of research of children and childhood 2. Cultural and social conception of child and childhood in cross cultural perspective - cross cultural conceptions of the child and childhood - life phases, - models of transition and initiations 3. Socialization of the child - basic concepts of socialization in different cultural and social contexts 4. Family as a child’s primar social and cultural setting - forms and functions of the family in child9s life - roles primar social groups in cross cultural perspective 5. Children outside traditional frames of socialization - deviations in childhood in cross cultural perspective - feral children - development of deviant behavior of the child - trajectories and outcomes of deviancy of childhood 6. Trends in modern societies - overview of contemporary research of children and childhood

Learning and teaching methods

• frontal, • groupwork, • individual and group doscussion, • individual work on text, • individual research, • multimedia presentations, • case study. The information and communications technology is used for educational purposes in the teaching and learning process.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and Understanding: • understanding of the basic sociological and anthropological thematisation of child and childhood in cross cultural perspective • knowledge about particularities within sociological and anthropological discussion of social phenomena of childhood, • differentiation between particular sociological and anthropological discussions of the social phenomena • mastering the basic conceptions of general sociological and anthropological analysis of the childhood • mastering the basic conceptions of selected sociological analysis • connecting different sociological and anthropological analysis
