Objectives and competences
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the development of psychology and thus enable them to better understand other psychological topics. Students will get a general and in-depth overview of psychology and its origins, they will be introduced to psychological methodology and to some specific methods.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Principles of development of psychology.
Psychological trends and schools: structural psychology, functional psychology, personalism, behaviorism and refleksology, gestalt psychology, psychoanalytic schools, neobehaviorism, humanistic psychology, kognitive psychology.
Development of theoretic and applied psychology.
Development of psychology in the main countries including Slovenia.
The methods of psychological research, natural and experimental observation, nomotetic and clinical methods, ratings.

The information and communications technology is used for educational purposes in the teaching and learning process.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
The student will gain knowledge and understanding of the subject of psychology, factors and theories of psychological functioning, and methods of studying and monitoring psychological functioning.
The student will be able to critically evaluate the knowledge acquired.

The student will be able to critically judge scientific and professional findings, theories and methods of psychology.
The student will be able to critically use and apply scientific and professional findings of psychology.

Each of the mentioned commitments must be assessed with a passing grade.
Passing grade of seminar work is required for taking the written exam.
At least 50% attendance at lectures and 80% attendance at tutorials is required.
