Objectives and competences

Students get acquainted with the social psychology as an scientific discipline and with its research focus. At the same time, they get into the history of social psychology and ideas and contributions of the key authors. They understand basic notions of social psychology, as well as their significance for other social sciences and humanities. They master basic principles of research methods in social psychology and get some experience in the practical research.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The subject and development of social psychology. The positioning of social psychology among other psychological and nonpsychological disciplines. Research methods in social psychology. An overview of the fields of social motivation, social construction of reality, social perception, social cognition, attribution and attribution theory, attitudes and related concepts, socialization, social theories of personality and self concept.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

The student will gain knowledge and understanding the subject of social psychology, different theoretical approaches and connections with other scientific disciplines and understanding the basic notions of social psychology. The student will learn about the methodological aspects of social psychology.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

The student will be able to critically evaluate scientific and professional findings, theories and methods of social psychology. The student will be able to use and apply scientific and professional findings of social psychology. The student will be prepared for continuing professional development.

Prerequisits

Prerequisites for attending the course: None. Prerequisites for completing the course: Each of the mentioned commitments must be assessed with a passing grade. Passing grade of completed tutorial and lab work is required for taking the written examination. At least 50% attendance at lectures and 80% attendance at tutorials is required.
