Objectives and competences

Student gains knowledge about the whole variety of fundamental historical processes on earth. He follows the development of primary human communication, of writing and calendar, of science and art in the symbiosis with the economic, social and cultural achievements of the antique world. All of that presents rich human heritage, without which we can understand neither great Mediteranian cultures nor European civilization or Asian nations or the rich heritage of aborigines in both Americas. Pre-antique foundations of modern world strech their roots on all continents.

Content (Syllabus outline)

History of Early Cultures of the pre-Antique world includes old cultures of Egipt, Mesopotamia with Near East, Hetites, Israel, Phoenicians, or everything that belongs in the arc of the fertile half-moon. Further the cultures of the Far East – Old China, Indus culture of the Indian subcontinent, Pre-Columbian cultures in America and the culture on the Easter Islands.

Learning and teaching methods

Explanation, discussion, work with sources. The information and communications technology is used for educational purposes in the teaching and learning process.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Student is able to analyze important occurrences, processes and changes in ancient cultures in the pre-antique history. He is also able to comparatively evaluate the fundamental economic, social, political and cultural terms and also the forms of development in the early cultures of the pre-antique world.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Student acquires capabilities of comparative treatment of individual ethnical elements and countries or historical processes at all. He gains the ability to critically assess all forms of messages that have the value of historical sources and to distinguish between inducements, motives and consequences considering the interdependence of different occurences, continuity and discrepancies in the historical development.
