Objectives and competences
Students:
- understand and draw conclusions about the importance of the population as an active factor in shaping the cultural landscape,
- get to know and evaluate basic demographic structures and processes,
- become familiar with demographic statistics and use them practically,
- evaluate population development in Slovenia and interpret basic demographic problems in Slovenia.
Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Evolution, number of population, spatial distribution of population, density, natural and social causes for different distribution of population.
2. Natality, mortality, natural growth, demographic regimes, demographic transition.
3. Migrations.
4. Demographic structures, biological anc social characteristics of population.
5. Problems of overpopulation, demographic explosion, critical views about population development, demographic politics, development of the population in the future.
6. Population in Slovenia.
7. Statistics in demography, sources and methods of research work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Students:
- understand the meaning of different demographic structures and processes on the regional development.
- are able to use different research methods for analyzing demographical processes,
- are able for researching concrete geographical problems in Slovenia.

- ability to use sources and information communication tehnologies,
- ability for practical use of knowledge and solving concrete geographical problems,
- enhanced essay and report writing skills,
- enhanced skills of cooperation and team work, enhanced oral presentation skills.

Conditions for inclusion in work: none.
Conditions for taking the exam: completed (positively evaluated) seminar paper with presentation, at least 80% participation in seminars and seminar tutorials, active participation in field work.
