Objectives and competences

Students: - get acqainted with the basic natural, social, economic and cultural caracteristics of Europe, - get acqainted with the basic facts about european regions and states, - get acqainted with some economic isues of European Union.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Geographical determinats of Europe 2. Natural resources od Europe – landforms, climate, vegetation 3. Population – structures, processes and conflicts 4. Economic development – from agrarian over industrial to postindustrial society 5. European union and regional development 6. European city 7. Environmental pollution 8. Europe and United states in comparison 9. Where are the boundaries of Europe?

Learning and teaching methods

- lectures, - audio-video presentations - discoussion, - field work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- an isight into the conflicts and contradictions of european economic development, - knowing the particularities of european civilisation, - understanding the need for economical and political integrations, - relating the landscape elements.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- ability of comparation and evaluation of european civilisation with other civilisations in the world, - ability of cartographic modeling.
