Objectives and competences
A student gets acquainted with tendencies and styles in modern Hungarian literature, linguistically – stylistic analysis and also with introducing modernistic characteristics and vanguardism, as well as post – modernism into the Hungarian literature in a co-text of the European and universal literature.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Lectures and seminar are focused on interpretation of the most important prose and dramatic works, which were published in Hungary during the period after 1956. They deal with the works taken from a modern novel, short story and drama (Tibor Déry, Sándor Márai, László Németh, Géza Ottlik, Iván Mándi) and mention their influence on the development of a newer and/or post modern Hungarian literature. They analyse styles and tendencies in the works of contemporary Hungarian authors – schematically and socialistically coloured literature, it is the literature in the style of realism, including the literary circle „Újhold”.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the basic characteristics of the historical discourse in Hungarian literature,
- critically analyse the historical-literary production in a reception and interpretation context,
- application of modern theoretical concepts and methodological approaches to the analysis and interpretation of literary texts,
- critically analyse of construction of poetic in Hungarian literary and semi literary texts.

Capability of analytical and synthetical, as well as critical thinking and aesthetic opinion.
