Objectives and competences

Students learn about Common points and differences that are reflected in the literatures of neighboring peoples, and Hungarian and Slovenian reading and analysis of the declarative world of the translated works; Analysis of translated literature and the dynamics of cultural contacts.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The lectures and the seminar deal with the reception of Hungarian literature in the Slovenian literary space and vice-versa - the process of reception aesthetics of contemporary Hungarian literature. Activities are based on actual literary works (works translated written by: Péter Esterházy, Péter Nádas, László Darvasi, Endre Kukorelly and translated into Slovenian; and works written by: Kajetan Kovič, Drago Jančar, Aleš Čar, Aleš Šteger and translated into Hungarian) and deal with how particular literary works were accepted in a certain cultural space (Slovenian and Hungarian) that features a completely different cultural and historical tradition. One can find different reading horizons, a different understanding of its artistic meaning and different aesthetical judgements. The subject deals with authors who facilitated and maintained these literary contacts and the spiritual channels that had an important role in mediating literary information.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will be able to: - aware of methods and tendencies of how a particular literary work is accepted in a specific cultural space (Slovenian and Hungarian) that has a completely different cultural and historical tradition, - know how to discover new reading horizons, and how to understand artistic messages differently, - understand the different comparative approaches to text analysis, - recognize the interculturally based differences between the texts, - understanding the intercultural literary science with regard of its method and function in research of cultural transfer, - see the foreign on diffenrent levels, - see the mutual effect of the production and reception.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

The ability to think analytically, synthetically and critically and an acquired feel for aesthetic, ethical values and plurality.
