Objectives and competences

The main objective of this subject is to prepare a student to work independently on a concrete literary text and through this to think about the modern Hungarian literature in a sovereign and conceptually suitable way, also in a broader European context.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Lectures and seminars are focused on interpretation of the most important prose works of contemporary authors (Péter Esterházy, Nobel prize - winner Imre Kertész, Péter Nádas, László Garaczi, Endre Kukorelly, László Krasznahorkai László Darvasi, Ádám Bodor…). They deal with the fields of a contemporary (post)modern novel, short stories and drama. The subject analyses individual literary corpuses and at the same time it follows the shifts, which took place on different fields of already mentioned post-modern era – literary ideological concepts and their influence on codification of a literary system. On concrete examples it finds out and deals with the shifts on a thematic, stylistic, linguistic and ideal field of Hungarian post-modern literature.
