Objectives and competences

• to familiarize the students with basic theoretical theses of lingual culture and with the theory and practice of the modern Hungarian literary language, • to understand what is actually happening in the field of Hungarian language and lingual politics, • following and directing the position of Hungarian language (in the European Union) and permanent promotion of the development of Hungarian language in the public life of the Hungarians,

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Theory of lingual genre. Kinds of Hungarian language: social, functional, temporal genre. • Lingual planning in minority lingual position. • Basic lingually – cultural handbooks: Hungarian orthography ( and Hungarian orthoephy), dictionary of literary language (ÉKSz. 2.): history and precursors, dictionary and norm. • Purism as lingual ideology; anglicisms; critical evaluation of contemporary/modern phenomena; handbooks. • Theory of literary language and theory of lingual culture. Literary language and theory of literary language; linguistic circle in Prague. Lingually – cultural trends in Hungary. • Contemporary questions: planning – lingual politics – lingual culture; detrianonisation of Hungarian language – dictionary program. Hungarian in the European Union (EU).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will be able to: - knows the strategy of lingual planning in Hungary (comparative with the European Union), - understands, that Hungarian language has its norm, corpus and other bases, as well as its own stylistic form - report on important scientific outcomes which explain the developmental stages in language acquisition, - argue about the advantages or disadvantages of one- and multilingualism, - compare the characteristic features of different language acquisition types
