Objectives and competences
At the forefront of this course are the students' communication skills in a foreign language.
The student at the end of the semester
- is able to communicate on relevant and familiar topics at the level A1+ to A2;
- is able to obtain necessary information and transmit it non-verbally and/or verbally adequately to linguistic aspects and content;
- understands important characteristics of the target language as well as cross-linguistic characteristics;
- understands basic cultural and geographical characteristics of the German speaking area;
- understands intercultural dimensions and is able to respond appropriately and consider them in communication.
Content (Syllabus outline)
- The thematic areas are linked to the fundamental areas of the students’ life and work, for example to personal information, everyday routines in private and professional life.
- Vocabulary is at the level A1+ to A2 after the EFL and is widened with respect to specific areas of the students’ professional interests.
- At the level of A1+ to A2 they deal with selected grammatical and other structures, through which the students are trained for basic communication in German in different situations.
- The cultural aspects of the target language, as well as relevant geographical and intercultural aspects are along with the linguistic elements of importance.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and understanding:
- ability to communicate on relevant topics at the level A1+ to A2;
- understanding of the basic linguistic and cross-linguistic characteristics of the target language;
- Understanding of basic cultural and geographical characteristics of the German speaking area;
- understanding the intercultural dimension and the appropriate use of communication in the foreign language.
