Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is to give basic knowledge on consecutive, simultaneous and whispered interpreting, to acquaint students with note-taking techniques, develop their listening skills, recapitulation and rhetorical competences, give knowledge necessary for interpreting of texts at a basic level, i.e. short welcoming speeches, business talks, business negotiations, workshops etc., acquaint students with the work in language lab and requirements they have to meet on the market.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• Interpreting competences: basic competences for different interpreting types.
• Text recapitulation: practical tutorials.
• Note-taking technique: presentation of note-taking techniques for consecutive interpreting.
• Simultaneous interpreting: presentation of basic techniques.
• Chouchotage: presentation of basic techniques.
• Demonstration of the work in language lab for simultaneous interpreting.
• Mnemonics: memorizing exercises (i.e. repetition of taped text in source language, repetition of an orally presented text).
• Listening skills: development of listening skills.
• Speaking skills: improvement of speaking skills.
• Interpreting: consecutive and simultaneous interpreting in language lab of texts at a basic level from Slovene to German and German to Slovene.
• Interpreting job market: requirements for interpreters (international conferences, seminars, workshops, community interpreting).

On completion of this course the student will be able to:
