Objectives and competences

Introducing students (theoretically and practically) and encourage them for further training. Introducing students both theoretically and practically to the development of autonomous, critical and reflective thinking and to the research of ethical, social and cognitive problems. To present (in theory and practice) and introduce them to philosophy with children: caring thinking, collaborative thinking, creative thinking and critical thinking. Introducing students to the facilitation of philosophical dialogue.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Caring, collaborative, critical and creative thinking with P4C. - Creating a community of inquiry. - The role of the facilitator, the role of philosophical discussion and leading a philosophical discussion through facilitation. - The place of philosophy for children and adolescents in the primary school curriculum. The relationship between content and process in P4C. - Reading books and manuals for individual levels of solving (philosophical) problems: the field of ethics, society and knowledge.

Learning and teaching methods

The course is based on the principles of experiential and problem-based learning. It will be a combination of theoretical and practical work in groups. Analysis of audio/video recordings included.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

At the end of the course the students: - understand and evaluate the fundamental principles of philosophy with children; - design and conceptualize the process; - understand a holistic (cognitive, social and emotional) approach by developing elements of philosophical thinking with children.

The students - are able to design, conceptualize the process; - are capable to choose appropriate interventions; - are capable of a holistic (cognitive, social and emotional) approach by developing elements of philosophical thinking with children.
