Objectives and competences

- Knowledge and comprehension of the tasks of the profession, practical work, methods of research. - Knowledge on pedagogical, research institutions, museums, institutions for protection of monuments, libraries. - Knowledge on basic literature on history of arts, lexica, handbooks, ways of searching for literature. - Knowledge and understanding the basic terminology of art history, main stylistic periods and artists. - Knowledge on the rules for writing different kinds of texts on history of arts (recensions, discussions, catalogue units ,etc. incl. instructions for quotations).

Content (Syllabus outline)

Practical and theoretical introduction to studies of history of arts, where the students gets acquainted ith the basic tasks of the profession or the historian of arts, respectively, institutions, ways and methodology of work, fundamental literature, ways of seeking for it. Basic ruels of writing and quoting in preparation of seminar works and different sorts of text in history of arts.

Learning and teaching methods

- lectures with AV projections - tutorial in the lecture room and before originals - writing of seminar works and studies - visiting institutions of history of arts and libraries

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- Student will list and define purpose of study, tasks of the profession, chances of employment. - Student will list, define and classify Slovenian and international institutions of history of arts. - Student will list and define main lexica, handbooks, ways of seeking for literature. - Student will list and define main terminology in art history. - Student will list, define and interpret main stylistic periods and artists. - Student will know and comprehend the basics of writing of different scientific texts and system of quotation.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- The acquired knowledge will be useful for the student in fulfilling academic obligations in art history as well as in other subjects within the study program. - The student will be trained to work in institutions dedicated to the study of cultural heritage, etc. - Exploring archives will broaden the student's horizons and guide them toward sources as a solid foundation for research.
