Objectives and competences
- knowledge and understanding of the history of arts creativity in times of ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- knowledge and understanding of the literature and other sources for study the art from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- recognition, definition, description, classification of artworks from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- comprehension and explanation of artworks from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire in a broader cultural and historical context.
Content (Syllabus outline)

- Etruscan arts
The general overview is concepted chronologically. Among chosen cases from world history of arts equal cases of the Slovenian patrimony are included. Emphasis is put on the understanding of art flows and influences. Arts phenomena are handled in a broader cultural context.
Learning and teaching methods
- lectures with projection;
- tutorial;
- visiting monuments in situ, in museums and galleries;
- presentations of student seminar works.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
- the student will recall facts and basic concepts of the history of visual arts from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- the student will know, find out, classify, interpret the literature and sources for studying the history of art and architecture from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- the student will recognise, define, describe, classify the works of architecture, sculpture, painting and applied arts from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire;
- the student will explain and interpret the artworks from ancient history till the fall of the Roman empire in a broader cultural and historical context.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
obtained knowledge will be used by the student in other subjects of the study programme History of Arts;
with basic knowledge on ancient eras he or she will be enabled to understand arts of younger eras;
with basic knowledge on ancient eras he or she will be enabled to understand history of architecture, applied arts, painting and sculpturing;
with basic knowledge on ancient eras he or she will develop basic capabilities for practical work in institutions for studying and protection of cultural heritage;
with the overview over the accessible literature and other sources, he or she will be enabled to independent research and qualitative working out of seminar works on the problems of the mentioned era.
