Objectives and competences
- To introduce students with iconographic and iconological approach.
- To present basic terms (terminology) and literary sources that have influenced iconography of artworks..
- Getting students acquainted with iconographic handbooks, literature and collections, based on which own research is possible.
- Get students to know how to apply iconographic and iconological method.
- Introduce to students the basic iconographic themes ,the most frequent symbols and attributes used in art history.
- Present the meaning of interdisciplinary humanistic knowledge (connection of history of arts with other, mainly historic and literary sciences).

Selected basic iconographic themes, symbols and attributes.
The subject is designed as introduction to iconography as important method of history of arts dealing with contents of pieces of fine arts.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
- Students are able to differentiate between iconographic and iconological method and their historiography.
- They explain, understand and apply properly the basic iconographic terms (terminology).
- Students are acquainted and use properly iconographic resources such as literature, handbooks, lexica and databases which enable interpretation.
- Students identify, recall, and explain the meaning of basic iconographic themes, symbols and attributes.
- Students identify selected, most frequent iconographic themes, symbols and attributes.
Obtained knowledge will be applied by the students at other subjects of the study programme.
Recognition of contents of pieces of art is one of the keys of its understanding.
Handling of iconographic method and literature will enable the students to independent (research) work in this field.
