Objectives and competences

- knowledge and comprehension of variety of problems in the field of architecture and urbanism - knowledge and comprehension on different methodological approaches in research and protection of monuments of architecture and urbanism; - description, classification, interpretation of characteristic architectural and urbanistic types and stylistic features in particular periods and in oeuvres of artists.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The subject is planned as methodological panopticum of the problem of architecture and urbanism, as it handles individual types of buildings, architectural creativity of some era, individual architectural or urbanistic monument or opus of some architect … It wishes to present different research and problems of protection of monuments and approaches, as in European frame as well as especially in selected Slovenian cases.

Learning and teaching methods

- lectures with projection; - tutorial; - visits of architectural and urbanistic monuments on sight; - presentations of students’ seminar works.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- Student will list, classify, define, explain, interpret various architectural and urbanistic types and stylistic features in particular periods and in oeuvres of artists - student will list, collect, define, classify, interpret literature and written sources for studying the architecture and urbanism - student will describe, define, classify, interpret different architecture in connection to its urbanistic function - - student will explain, classify, interpret selected monuments of architecture and urbanism in a broader cultural and historical context - student will recognize, define, explain facts and basic ideas and concepts of selected monuments of architecture and urbanism

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- Students will effectively apply the acquired knowledge in other subjects within the study program. - By understanding important selected chapters from history of architecture and urbanism, they will gain insight into the cultural landscape of Europe as a whole. - Familiarity with available literature and other sources will enable them to conduct independent research and successfully complete their academic requirements. - The knowledge acquired will provide students with a foundation to develop into cultured and intelligent individuals who appreciate and respect art and, by extension, human endeavors in general.
