Objectives and competences
- presenting the students variety of problems in the field of painting and graphics met by students as future historians of arts;
- informing students on different methodological approaches in dealing with praintings and graphics;
- deepen students capabilities for independent research in the field of painting and graphics;
- deepen student’s capabilities of critical judgement of problems in the field of painting and graphics
- to train students in recognizing of stylistic features in particular periods and in oeuvres of artists.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The subject is designed as methodological panopticum of problems of painting and graphics, among others it discusses individual pieces of arts, praintings and graphics of some era or school, opus of some painter or graphic artist. It wishes to present different problems of research and protection of monuments and approaches, as in the European frame as well as especially selected Slovenian cases.

- presentations of students’ seminar works.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
- Student will gain knowledge of the variety of problems in the field of painting and graphics;
- student will gain knowledge of different methodological possibilities and develop basic capabilities for research of these problems;
- student will deepen capabilities for practical work with pieces of painting and graphic arts.
- adopted knowledge and critical thinking will be useful for the student in other subjects from the study programme;
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
- Students will effectively apply the acquired knowledge in other subjects within the study program.
- By understanding important selected chapters from history of painting and graphics, they will gain insight into the cultural landscape of Europe as a whole.
- Familiarity with available literature and other sources will enable them to conduct independent research and successfully complete their academic requirements.
- The knowledge acquired will provide students with a foundation to develop into cultured and intelligent individuals who appreciate and respect art and, by extension, human endeavors in general.
