Objectives and competences

- knowledge and comprehension of selected sculptures based on the function of artworks - knowledge and comprehension of literature and written sources for studying of sculpture based on the function of sculptures - description, definition, classification, interpretation of sculptures selected on the bases of their function - comprehension, classification, interpretation of sculptural works in a broader cultural and historical context - comprehension and explanation of facts and basic ideas and concepts of sculptures.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Based on selected complexes from Slovenian and global, mainly Western European cultural heritage, obtained knowledge knowledge of history of sculpturing creativity is deepened. Emphasis is put on the understanding of flows and influences of arts. Artistic phenomena are handled in a broader cultural context. Form the sculpturing heritage there are selected key works and creators that can be interpreted as carriers of development or peak of some direction. At selection of chapters it is also respected what sculptural event in European art was especially significant for sculptural creativity in Slovenia (e.g. Sculpturing of international gothics, high and late baroque). Methodological approaches of history of arts for discussion of monuments or trends towards complete handling of selected sculpturing works.

Learning and teaching methods

- lectures with projection - tutorial - visits to monuments in situ, in museums and galleries - discussion on handled monuments - discussion on read texts - presentations of students’ seminar works

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- student will list, classify, define, explain, interpret selected sculptures based on the function of artworks - student will list, collect, define, classify, interpret literature and written sources for studying of sculpture based on the function of sculptures - student will describe, define, classify, interpret sculptures selected on the bases of their function and connect them with sculptures with other functions - student will explain, classify, interpret selected sculptures in a broader cultural and historical context - student will recognize, define, explain facts and basic ideas and concepts of selected sculptures.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- by deepened knowledge of sculptural works he or she will be able to understand other cathegories of arts - by knowledge of sculptural works he or she will develop capabilities for practical work in institutions for the studying and protection of cultural heritage - by the overview over accessible literature and other sources he or she will be enabled for research and qualitative production of seminar and other works on problems of sculpturing
