Objectives and competences
The objective:
to acquaint students with the social, cultural and lingual aspects
to acquaint the students with the social and cultural conditioned content of dictionaries
to acquaint students with novelties in contemporary lexicography.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The subject deals with the following interlingual German-Slovene and cultural aspects:
- social, cultural and linguistic aspects of lexicography
- social functions of dictionaries (symbolic value, authority, orientation, standards)
- chronological and typological survey of selected German and German-Slovene dictionaries
- value system and ideology in a dictionary
- social and cultural conditions of lexicographic texts
- culturally specific contents of dictionaries
- problem of interlingual equivalence
- dictionary in the 21st century, new concepts.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
The student will be
acquainted to the social and cultural aspects and the social functions of dictionaries
able to recognize and critically evaluate culturally specific contents of lexicographic texts
acquainted to the possibilities of using new technology in the process of planning and drafting dictionaries.
