Objectives and competences
The objective is * to acquaint with the social, cultural-historical and cognitive aspects of professional communication * to acquaint with the position and the role of professional communication in science and education * to acquaint with the policy of multilingualism in professional communication * to learn about the essential characteristics and functions of conceptual and terminological systems * to deepen the knowledge of professional media with special regard to information technology * to acquaint with selected professional text types from the intercultural point of view * to prepare for contrastive analysis of German and Slovene professional texts in the field of linguistics
Content (Syllabus outline)
The subject deals with the characteristics of professional communication from an intercultural and interlingual (mainly German-Slovene) point of view and focuses on: * social, cultural-historical and cognitive aspects of professional communication * professional language in science and education * multilingualism in professional communication (status of languages, language choice, translation) * terminological systems (concept and denominative system of the domain, terminology, contrastive terminological and terminographic aspects, development and planning) * professional media (information technology, hypertextuality, multimedia, interactivity, collaborativity, openness) * professional text types (selection), intercultural aspects * case study: contrastive analysis of selected German and Slovene professional texts in the field of linguistics

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
On completion of this course the student will * know the social, cultural-historical and cognitive condition of professional communication * know and master the basic characteristics and principles of professional dialogue, mainly in a foreign language (German) in a German speaking context * know the possibilities of using new media and technology in professional communication * be trained for contrastive analysis of German and Slovene professional texts from the field of linguistics.
