Objectives and competences

The objective of the subject is make students acquainted with the paradigmatic works of the 20th and 21st century’s literature and enable them for an independent selection of the literary works for the work in the classroom on different levels. The basis for this are the syllabi and the didactical and methodical concepts for teaching literature. The stress lies on the competence orientation and on the higher text competence.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Paradigmatic works of the German speaking countries in the 20th and 21st century; • 20th and 21st century’s Literature; • Main representatives; • Main works; • Selection of the works for the work the classroom; • Analysis and preparation of the prose for the work in the classroom; • Analysis and preparation of the drama texts for the work in the classroom; • Poetry analysis and preparation for the work in the classroom.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

deeper knowing of the characteristics of the 20th and 21st century’s literature, its main authors, exemplary works; independent selection of the literary works for the work in the classroom; deeper understanding of the literary production and reception not only in the aesthetic but also in cultural-historical and intercultural context; independent analysis of the production in this literary period: preparation of the texts for the work in the classroom

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

solving of professional problems finding and using primary and secondary literature; finding sources in the internet; collecting and interpreting the data; identifying and solving problems; critical analysis and interpretation; guiding projects and working in a team; presenting his/her knowledge; writing skills and oral expression..
