Objectives and competences

The student gets acquainted to the theoretical procedures of teaching German as a foreign language to adolescents, adult and older learners; implements the aquired knowledge of teaching German to the target learners and evaluates it constructively; gets knowledge and skills, helping him/her to estimate the effectiveness and to produce his/her own teaching materials and simulate micro teaching with adult learners. The student also focuses on learning and teaching foreign language for specific purposes and get acquainted with different obstacles and opportunities that are conducted by the targeted learning and teaching of a foregn language.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- recognition, testing and evaluating the theoretical learning and teaching methods of teaching German to young adult, adult and older learners; - cognition-oriented learning and teaching of a foreign language to learners from the age of 14 years onwards; - stimulation of all four language competencies; - materials for teaching young adult, adult and older learners – analysis of existing and production of new materials; - planing and simulation of lessons - learning and teaching foreign languages for specific purposes – characteristics, obstacles and opportunities

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

The student assimilates appropriate didactic procedures for teaching adolescents, adults and older learners; - is able to evaluate and produce suitable didactic instruments; - is able to integrate elements of foreign language for specific purposes into his/her practical work in the classroom.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Key skills are the thoughtfull transfer of acquired theoretical knowledge about teaching adolescnet, adult and older learners, learning German as a foreign language for specific purposes and the transfer of the new knowledge into practice teaching differnt target groups.
