Objectives and competences

- analysis of heterogeneous art praxis in different times and areas; - analysis, categorization and evaluation of local, regional and international aspects of art production; - analysis, categorization and evaluation of particularities of workshops’ and individual style; - analysis and evaluation of foundation, activities and influences of art academies; - analysis, categorization and evaluation of relations between centers and periphery.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Style development in the context of space and time. - Individual styles. - Artists’ training in selected historical periods and regions. Workshops, transfer of knowledge and skills from masters to pupils. Appearance and activities of art academies. - Art geography (“Kunstgeographie”). Local, regional, European and international aspects of artistic production. - Relations between centers and periphery. Imitation and competition, travel of the artists, transfer of motifs, sample books.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- The student will differentiate, identify and evaluate style characteristics of works of art based on period and area of their appearance, as well as the characteristics of workshops’ and individual style. - The student will differentiate and evaluate different methods of artistic training in different periods and areas as well as the influence of these methods on art production. - The student will analyze and evaluate the relations between art production the the centers and periphery - The student will transfer and apply the acquired knowledge on selected cases in his/her own research, analyses and evaluations of art works.
