Content (Syllabus outline)

Through history, Styria was a geographical and political unity, which was divided by state borders only after World War I. So Styria had comparatively unified development also in the field of visual art, what even the circumstances after 1918 couldn’t change totally. Lately art historians had researched the art history of Styria more or less divided into Slovene and Austrian part, considering state borders, what restrained valuation of particular monuments and art phenomena. But nowadays such limits are to be canceled more and more. Only in understanding Styria as a unified region and considering various art streams and influences and all other historical, political and general cultural circumstances, Styria presents itself as an important art region, widely incorporated in European art production in all periods.
