Objectives and competences

Students: - know and understand the social importance of tourism and recreation, the basic characteristics of tourism, factors of tourist development, the interrelationship between landscape potential and tourist development and impacts of the tourism and recreation on the development and changing of the landscape - learn about the methods and techniques in the study of tourism and recreation and are trained to use them, - learn about the most important examples of good practices of sustainable development of tourism and recreation in Slovenia.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Characteristics of tourist development. 2. Effects of tourist development. 3. The importance of tourism and recreation for sustainable development. 4. Measures to promote sustainable development of tourism. 5. Methods for evaluation of the suitability of the tourism and recreational land use. 6. The development of tourism in rural areas. 7. Examples of good practice of sustainable development of tourism and recreation in Slovenia.

Learning and teaching methods

- lectures - option work The information and communications technology is used for educational purposes in the teaching and learning process.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: Students: - understand the importance of tourism and recreation in contemporary society and its importance for sustainable development, - know contemporary processes and phenomena in the tourist regions, - are competent to analyze the tourist areas and the practical application of knowledge in the various cases - are qualified for research to explore the tourist areas and consider the effects of sustainable development.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: - ability to use sources and information communication technologies, - ability for practical use of knowledge and solving concrete geographical problems, - enhanced essay and report writing skills, - enhanced skills for cooperation and team work, enhanced communication skills skills.
