Objectives and competences
The objectives of this course are: to teach the student to demonstrate understanding of modern construction management theories; to teach the student to organize construction works and to apply theoretic knowledge to practical cases; to teach the student to prepare a construction site organization project.
Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Introduction (definition of the concept of construction management, reasons for construction management, purpose and goal of construction manegement, approach to construction management).
2. Preliminary studies of construction conditions (contractual relations, project documentation for construction implementation, local conditions, databases, construction calculations, technological process, operational plans, production factors, field conditions).
3. Construction site layout planning (construction site area, construction site roads and paths, construction site cranes, construction site spaces for workers, construction site spaces for work equipment and objects, construction waste, construction site electrification, construction site lighting, construction site water supply, construction site drainage, municipal wastewater management).
4. Construction site organization project (construction site layout plan, preliminary estimate of preparatory and clean-up works, operational implementation plans, safety and fire prevention measures).
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures on specific thematic contexts, problem based teaching and learning, encouraging students to solve specific problems, to be ready for commitment and active participation, and to use modern and traditional media; comparison of theory and practice.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
On completion of this course the student will be able to: explain modern construction management theories; organize construction works and to apply theoretic knowledge to practical cases; prepare a construction site organization project.

Communication skills: manner of expression at written examination, oral work defence. Problem solving: preparing a site organization project, in total or in part, either individually or in a team
