Objectives and competences

Use of calculation of inner forces and deflections in statically determinate and statical indeterminate structures. Developing digital competences by analysing structures with a computer programme.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Introduction, definitions and basic concepts of structural analysis, structural analysisi of statically determinate structures, kinematics of structures, deflections, stiffness and flexibility, the Force method, the displacement and stiffness methods, basics of the computer programme for the structural analysis. Traditional classroom learning auditorium exercises, use of computer programme for structural analysis

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge, comprehension, application and structural analysis of structures using classical methods of analys and with use of computer programme.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Application and analysis of structures as basis for structural design. Developing skills in communication and teamwork, time-management, organisation, a sense of community and belonging.

Prerequisits

None. Recomended knowledge of mathematics, physics, engineering materials, mechanics, structural analysis and structural elements from previous year’s study.
