A student develops writing skills for drawing up academic and technical texts in German
Content (Syllabus outline)
Technical and scientific writing in German:
Topics:
- Composition (planning, title, introduction, paragraphs, body of article, conclusion, tables, abstract, summary),
- Style (objectivity, clarity, formality, hedging, signposting),
- Language functions (agreeing and disagreeing, comparing and contrasting classifying, defining, emphasizing, generalizing, quoting),
- Grammar (word order, adverbs, verb tenses, passive voice).
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures with exercises on all skills (listening, reading, communication), focused on writing by means of composition exercises
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Students will be familiar with characteristic features of technical and scientific German.
Students will be able to distinguish between features of technical / academic and general German.
Students will be able to actively use technical / academic German in composition.
