Objectives and competences

To inform students with different multimodal transport technologies. Special emphasis is devoted to technology of railway transport. The general objective of the subject is to provide students with advanced freight and passenger transport technology in the context of land transport and advantages, the use of which is guaranteed in multimodal transport. Students should be able to understand the impact and role of multimodality and intermodality in land transport. Students should be able to understand the impact of selected elements of land transport technology and know how these can be taken into account by developing new technologies.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Road transport technology Rail transport technology - Technology of the rail terminals operations - Technology of manoeuvre, - Technological process of railways stations operations - Technological process of train composing - Technological process of railway carriage collecting - Mechanisation and automation of railway stations operation - Standardisation System analysis of existing technologies of inland transport - Pallets in cargo transport - Containers in cargo transport - Transport technology of carrying the road vehicles by other transport means Development of up-to-date transport technologies - Multimodal transport - Combined transport - Huchepack - RO-RO - LO-LO - LASH - Bimodal system Passenger transport technologies

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures and exercises are foreseen, where theoretically gained knowledge strengthens on concrete instances. Students in frame of exercises finish also seminar paper, that he comprises fieldwork and analysis of concrete realistic example of transport technology.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

After finish of the subject, students will be able to: - collect and analyse key data of a selected elements of the multimodal transport technology under study, - evaluation of the mutual impact between the analysed elements of multimodal transport technology, - analyse different possibilities for freight and passenger transport that can be found in the transport market, - conclude about development possibilities (improvements) of existing multimodal transport technologies, - determine advantages, benefits, weaknesses and risks of using modified (new) multimodal transport technology. Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: - Communication skills: written expression by written exam and verbal expression by verbal exam

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

ability of effective usage of existing transport technologies
