Objectives and competences

Aims and goals/objectives of the subject are: - to acquaint students with special knowledge in the field of traffic safety and security - explain the importance of safety analyzes and measures in traffic and show the importance of safety in traffic - plan independent and creative thinking about sustainable road safety solutions

Content (Syllabus outline)

Motivation of traffic safety and security problematic at traffic systems. Theory of safety (of traffic system) and security (person and goods); legislation and measurers. Factors of technical-psychological aspects of traffic safety (vehicle-driver-environment). Psychology with ethic principles in traffic. Psychology aspects of safety in traffic. Safety at transportation of passengers and goods. Environment influences. Safety analyses of traffic systems, f.i. FMEA, failure tree, WBA, HAZOP …). Safety and security at road traffic: safety of persons (pedestrians, cyclists), visibility at overtaking, vertical and horizontal visibility, conflicts spots etc. Safety and security at railway traffic: systematic safety, accidents prevention measures, Fail-Safe principles (technical safety) on vehicles, rail and regulations, measures at defects, errors, cut-outs, specially events, influence of: human, technique, organization, model RAMS-LCC (reliability, availability, maintenance, safety – life cycle costs) etc.. Problematic of safety in transport enterprises. Subjects and objects of protection in transport enterprises. Costs evaluation and protection benefits.

frontal lectures, home-works, consultations, seminar (case study) work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

After successful completion of the study unit students should be able to: - explain the importance of different methods of evaluating traffic safety - understand the importance of safety analyzes and their methodological concept - compare different solutions of good practices for raising the level of traffic safety and security - select the most appropriate (optimal) solutions for road safety concepts, - plan a preliminary design for road safety safety analysis

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

student is capable to elaborate the seminar work, concerning the problem (case study), performs safety analysis and provides prevention measures.
