Objectives and competences

The aim of this course is for students to: • To understand the mobility (as a social and individual phenomena) • To understand how to develop the »soft« (non-infrastructure) policies and measure. • To learn how to integrate the vulnerable (also handicapped) people in modern transportation system.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Part 1: Development policies and transport, Concepts of national and European policies; Environmental and spatial policies; Social, demographic, family (education etc.) policies; Economic policies and globalisation processes; Global vs. European vs. National vs. Regional vs. Local…; Development programmes: Transport policies; Policies and action programmes (concepts, development, implementation, evaluation, controlling etc.); Case studies. Part 2: Sustainable (Urban) Transport Plans. Concepts. Case Studies. Part 3: Travel behaviour & Mobility Management; Mobility management; definition, approaches, goals. Travel awareness; concept. Criteria of evaluation (environment, time, security and safety, macro- and micro transport account etc.). Travel behaviour, travel patterns. Soft measures in transportation planning. Methods and models for encourage the travel behaviour change. Travel awareness campaigns. Soft mobility policy concepts; (Best) practice study, success stories. Part 4: Mobility planning for vulnerable and handicapped; Special needs for vulnerable traveller; Special needs for handicapped persons; Case studies.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and Understanding: Upon completion of the course, students will: • Be able to analyze and evaluate the state of mobility at the location in question • Be able to assess the (in) compliance of the situation with the goals of sustainable development • Be able to make a synthesis of knowledge from subjects on the environment and space, economy, transport, and society and prepare sustainable mobility plans Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: Prepare Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans following the EU methodology/recommendations. Conduct soft mobility policies.
