Objectives and competences
Aims and goals/objectives of the subject are:
- to get acquainted with the field of traffic safety
- to get acquainted with organizations, methodology and research in the field of traffic safety
- understand the driver-vehicle-environment cyber system and the legislative part
- understand the concepts of road safety (vision zero, sustainable road safety)
Content (Syllabus outline)

Observing traffic (terms such as "incident," "almost an accident" conflict risk in traffic, etc.).
Selected chapters from the traffic safety: (i) the weight and size of vehicles; (ii) Active and Passive Safety; (iii) vulnerable road users; (iv) the behavior of road users (the driver's tasks, reaction times, driver education ...); (v) the protection of passengers; (vi) alcohol in traffic.
Measures to increase traffic safety (actions and infrastructure measures).
Learning and teaching methods
Lecturing; occasional use of computer tools that illustrate f.e. the application parameters of the individual models. Project approach the treatment of road safety.
Laboratory work in the Lab of Traffic and Transportation Engineering
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
After successful completion of the study unit students should be able to:
- define the field of road safety in technical and economic terms
- select an appropriate road safety forecasting methodology
- use traffic accident databases (AVP, Police)
- distinguish between individual categories of road accidents and road infrastructure.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
