Objectives and competences

Aims and goals/objectives of the subject are: - to get acquainted with the importance of means of transport in the management of work processes (eg warehouses, production processes, etc.) - to get acquainted with the basic physical parameters that influence the choice of the appropriate agent - understand the basic physical quantities that influence the choice of the optimal means of transport - determine the appropriate means of transport for management in inland transport

Content (Syllabus outline)

Introduction: historical development, basic performances, working principles of the transport devices for internal transport. Continuously working transport devices: belt, chain, roller, trolley and worm conveyors, elevators, pneumatic and hydraulic conveyors). Tactically working transport devices: chariots, forklifts, lifts, cranes. Manipulative transport equipment: all kinds of elements for undertaking and manipulating with freight – goods (hooks, shackles, magnetic and vacuum graspers etc.). Capacities of transport devices: basic calculation procedures of through-output and carrying capacity and design – construction of transport devices. Driving and regulation devices for transport devices: dimensioning of driving mechanisms, gearboxes, tension devices, regulation of revolutions etc. Manufacturing and warehouse systems: as a basic field of internal transport devices exploitation. Determination of proper transport devices due to through-output and carrying capacity.

Learning and teaching methods

Lecturers (explanation of the subject using collected notes, using up-to date didactical methods and techniques – projections, movies, computer simulations and animations etc.), tutorial practice (practical work based on achieved theoretical knowledge), seminar work (preparing students on developing their own seminar work).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

After successful completion of the study unit students should be able to: - distinguish between different variants of selected solutions in internal transport - select the appropriate means of transport according to the applicant (material, time, capacity, etc.) - select the optimal transport device (according to the required parameters and energy consumption).

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
