Objectives and competences

Aim of this subject is to teach students to describe basics in telecommunication, information systems and transmission mediums in railway traffic. Students will be able to list elements of intelligent telecommunication networks and differentiate train movements and followings based on different rail paths and routes. They will identify main aspects of ERTMS and differentiate ETCS levels. They will show the working of phonograms and GSM-R on real life example.

Content (Syllabus outline)

As part of the course, students will learn about content that is important for green and digital operation of railway transport. - Basics about railway intelligent infrastructure, - railway information systems development - Train movement and railway signaling - telecommunications and transmission devices and systems in railway traffic - intelligent telecommunications network elements - specifics of information systems inside railways - Radio systems - ERTMS/ETCS - GSM-R

Learning and teaching methods

Lecture and practice are foreseen, theoretically knowledge are examined with paper tests. Seminar work from concrete real example on strain movements and telecommunication is also foreseen to be done with software Opentrack.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
