Objectives and competences

Student gains theoretical and practical knowledge about planning apartment buildings. He/she can fulfil the aesthetic, technical and functional conditions and well as graphics and written-spoken language for representation of a project to nonprofessional public.

Content (Syllabus outline)

LECTURES Selected topics in the field of multi-apartment and multi-functional architecture and construction / contents by individual sections: • Introduction into apartment building typology • General overview of residential building • Apartment buildings across the world • Apartment buildings in Slovenia • Single-apartment buildings across the world • Single-apartment buildings in Slovenia • Typology of residential buildings • Apartment building regulations • Architectural awards – Piranesi • Examples of residential buildings: Vienna, Beograd and Berlin • sustainable building in Vorarlberg • Vernacular architecture • Residential buildings and art • Experimental architecture SEMINARY/PROJECT WORK 0. Lectures will be represented with Power Point slideshows. Seminary/project work will be performed as individual reviews and group representations. Field trip

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- identify and understand the process and methodology of multi-apartment housing and construction planning in the spatial planning and architectural context - approach the problem by research and consideration of rational planning methods - understand and analyze the differences between different typologies of multi-apartment construction in a specific space - consider and understand the elements that influence the design of multi-apartment housing and multifunctional buildings - summarize the essences of various professional and scientific contents and summarize what has been learned in the concept under consideration

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- prepare the starting points for the design of the planned multi-apartment building as a practical example - assess the given location and critically evaluate the possibilities of the building in a particular space - prepare an independent analysis, design and project solution of the architectural plan of a multi-apartment building at the given location - present the prepared project work as an architectural project in drawings, description and model in front of the audience
