Objectives and competences
- to get acquainted with the spatial and architectural issues of residential buildings, with emphasis on functionality, organization, disposition and standards of residential premises;
- to investigate and understand the relationship between man and housing;
- to know the principles of integration in the design and planning of housing, aware of the various components of housing construction;
- to understand the diverse approaches to the reference cases in practice and related guidelines for residential buildings design.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Selected topics of multi-apartment architecture and construction / Contents by individual sections:
- multi-apartment buildings in a wider context (economic, environmental, social, techological, demographic...);
- dwelling development from historic point of view;
- housing structures - the fundamentals of housing design according to functional characteristics of residential structures, planning and research aspect (i.e. commputational data models, generative design methods...);
- conceptions of complex typologies in urban space and related floor plans;
- urban context (outdoor space, parking concepts, green spaces, mobility aspects...)
- the dwelling – a basic cell of living space and interdependency of residential functions;
- the analysis of residential premises: the orientation, the sun exposure, ventilation, lighting, equipment, connection to the outdoor space, variant concepts of the communication core,
- flexibility / variability in horizontal and vertical design of premises,
- selected details, housing fasades...
- new development perspectives of multi-apartment building design (housing cooperatioves, co-housing, integration of elements and approaches that promote the green transition and sustainability, Davos Baukultur,...).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
- identify characteristic problems of housing in spatial planning and architectural context;
- diversify the differences in the implementation of housing typologies;
- design a comprehensive solution of a multi-apartment buildings on a concrete location;
- summarize characteristic parameters of integrating various aspects in the conception of multi-apartment constructions.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
- summarize the conceptual design bases of the multi-apartment building as a case study, with regard to the concrete location and the implementation;
- prepare an independent analysis, design in the concept of architectural plan for a multi-apartment building;
- present the prepared case study and practical assignmnet in drawings and description to the audience
