Objectives and competences

- to get acquainted with the principles and goals of sustainable strategies in spatial development planning; - to be familiar with the problems of the state of the art and trends in the spatial development of Slovenia and the EU; - to know the basic approaches to the conceptualization of spatial development in connection with different fields; - to understand an integrative approach to the spatial phenomena and the related interdisciplinary connectivity of different disciplines with impacts on the development of urban structures; - to get acquainted with methods and tools for state of the art analysis, synthesis and design of spatial solutions on a practical example of spatial strategies

Content (Syllabus outline)

Fundamentals of regional/spatial planning issues - basic terms - sustainable spatial development principles and goals - historical overview of regional/spatial planning development. Regionall/spatial planning framework - planning levels (EU, national, regional, local) - regions and regionalization (definition, types) - spatial relationships (urban systems, functional networks, axes, floor space characteristics). Systems of spatial development - System of urban structures - System of infrastructure networks - System of green areas. Development of spatial structures: - Development of production areas - Development of central areas - Development of agriculture and countryside areas

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- know the professional terminology in connection with spatial strategies; - develop conceptual thinking, the ability to analyse and synthesize spatial solutions; - plan basic spatial structures with an emphasis on urban structures (urban and settlement development); - Use appropriate graphic methods and tools

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- summarize the key elements of the spatial / regional planning system systems; - examine the interdisciplinary approach of different disciplines in the field of spatial development; - prepare independent analysis, synthesis and project solution on a case study of the seminar work; - present the seminar work to the audience in drawings and description.
