Objectives and competences
- To understand the processes and methodologies of sustainable building design;
- To get familiar with basic principles and methods of sustainable building architectural design;
- to be aware of the importance of sustainable aspects when placing objects in space.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The project »sustainable building« focuses on the design of an architectural complex / a building or a group of buildings from the view-pint of sustainable architecture principles including:
- Strategies for designing a sustainable building
- Analysis and the sustainable use of space
- Functional concept of sustainable building
- Construction concept of sustainable building
- Energy efficiency concept of sustainable building
- Architectural design aspects of sustainable building detailing.
The architectural project consists of two parts:
1. Conceptual part – the presentation and argumentation of the building concept;
2. Design part – sustainable building design including the location and the detailing of the façade section
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures
Field trip
Seminar work
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
- define the elements of spatial planning and architectural design of a sustainable building;
- summarize the knowledge and experience of wider areas and elements of architectural design of a sustainable building (functional scheme, construction and technology concept, detailing ...);
- perform an independent analysis, synthesis and project solution including the presentation of seminar work based on a case study in practice.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
Student understands basic elements of urban- and architectural design of sustainable building.
Student learns operative elements of architectural design of the sustainable building (urban design, functional scheme, materials concept,…).
