Objectives and competences

The aim of the course is for students to understand and be able to define different concepts of regenerative architecture and to be able to conceptualise the regeneration of the buildings with their associated open space.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Problem background 2. Architecture in the context of social change 3. Architecture in the context of climate change 4. Definition of regenerative architecture and quality indicators 5. Approaches to building regeneration 6. Regenerative concepts in relation to the purpose and typology of buildings: - Regeneration to improve the technological-functional performance of buildings - Regeneration to improve the architectural-functional performance of buildings - Regeneration to adapt to social needs - Regeneration to adapt to climatic change 7. Regenerative concepts in architecture in relation to geographical, cultural and socio-economic contexts 8. Technology for regenerative measures 9. Study of good practice examples 10. Research on regenerative architecture

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures are carried out using the following teaching methods: - projection of presentations, - discussion, - work with photographs, drawings, Seminar and exercises are carried out using the following teaching methods: - study of expert and scientific literature, - discussion, - analysis of case studies, - implementation of intermediate presentations with analysis of seminar work - individual work / group work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: - analyse conditions of existing buildings in the immediate and wider urban, social and environmental context, - identify problems of the analysed building fabric, - evaluate specific regeneration needs of analysed buildings, - determine the type of appropriate regenerative concept, - design an approach to the regeneration of building under consideration and its associated open space

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Communication skills: written expression and argumentation as well as oral expression and presentation.
