Objectives and competences

To give knowledge from the field of spatial planning on different levels, to learn methods in techniques, specific case studies and best practice examples, to deliver special knowledge from the side of different sectors, which are involved in spatial planning, acquire knowledge of sustainable planning

Content (Syllabus outline)

General subject description, multidiscipline, inter- and trans- disciplinary in teaching and designing space; current paradigms of space regulation and PP and also environmental management; illustrations and discussions about lecturer's own projects and experiences. (Critical) Approach regarding (structural) urban spatial issues with opening introduction of architectural and landscape architecture, urban and landscape design and spatial planning. Similar about methods of rational and planned interventions in professional corrective activity. Critical evaluation of state administration and local government in the fields of spatial planning and environmental Protection and Improvement. Different interpretations of planning procedures, process and methods of creating different plans »as products«. Review of valid urban legislation with commentary. Analytical methods and techniques in PP and UP. Visually engaged analyses in PP and UP. Urban ecology and sustainable city. Urban dispersion and regional challenges in Slovenia. Selected Chapters of UP and PP methodology.

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures, examples of good real case studies. Each theme will be explained, needed literature will be given and will also do field trips. After primary assignments will be done in groups, each project is individually presented. All the participants take part in the discussion.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

on completion of this course the student will be able to: - use environment protection legal basis, recommendations, reports and data basis from the filed of spatial planning -use the methods and techniques of spatial planning in making spatial planning documents at municipal, regional and national level - understand main goals of spatial planning - follow the principles of sustainable spatial planning - select the optimal methodology for land-use planning, regional infrastructure, regional projects, municipal and regional transport and urban systems -integrate knowledge into practices
