Objectives and competences
- to get familiar with the basic systematics of architectural structures and technologies together with their project presentation;
- to get acquainted with the development and use of architectural constructions in the building design and construction with an emphasis on architectural elements and their components;
- to understand the structural design of the building and the interdependence of individual components;
- to know the characteristics of individual structural components of the building, their constituent elements and interconnections;
- to acquire a basic sense for dimensioning individual architectural elements of the building;
- to master the methods, tools, and professional terminology on architectural design of a simple residential building.
- To become familiar with the possibilities of using digital tools (CAD/BIM) and artificial intelligence in the early stages of designing basic architectural elements.
Content (Syllabus outline)
- Basic terms on the architectural conception of a building;
- Methods, tools, symbolism, and representation techniques of architectural design;
- An introduction to the elements of architecture with an overview of architectural forms, structures, and technologies;
- Analogy of the elements in architecture;
- Vertical architectural elements: column and wall, vertical architectural elements on the example of a building;
- Openings as an architectural element, windows and doors;
- Horizontal levels in architecture;
- Basic structural elements in buildings;
- Vertical communication in buildings, stairs;
- Foundations;
- Pitched roofs, design, construction, assembly;
- Flat roofs, design, construction, assembly;
- Use of digital tools for the technical drawing of architectural elements;
- Introduction to the use of artificial intelligence as a support tool in basic architectural design;

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Upon completion of the course, the students should be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- apply basic knowledge of architectural and structural design of a building and its individual components consisting of architectural elements;
- understand the project representation of a building in architectural plans and drawings;
- define the implementation of individual phases of design and construction, supported by a field trip;
- design a project work - architectural design plan in the drawings of a design solution on a simple residential building;
- To demonstrate the sustainable aspects of material use in basic architectural elements;
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
- to summarize the basic architectural, construction and technological characteristics of individual architectural elements and their integration into assemblies in the building as a whole;
- to develop the ability of designing architectural plans and drawings, inclusively the use of the appropriate ICT and selected AI tools..
