Objectives and competences

- to get acquainted with the basic technical characteristics of individual architectural elements and their integration into building assemblies; - to understand the functionality, construction and design solutions, and the use of various materials; - to know the principles of economic and logical use of materials in regard to the implementation of architectural elements of a building taking into account the energy efficiency requirements of buildings; - to be able to design an architectural plan for a more complex individual family house with all the drawings and detailing regarding basic architectural sets using digital tools and by taking into account the energy efficiency requirements of buildings.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Architectural design in relation to different structural systems and technologies; - Function separation (structure, finalization, thermal envelope) - Earthworks and foundations; - Wall elements; - Thermal insulation of buildings (energy efficiency of buildings and the concept of the nearly zero-energy house); - Moisture protection (methodological approach, remediation methods); - Sound protection (acoustics); - Fire protection (chimneys, vents); - Roof construction design (construction system definition, drainage, green roofs); - Building openings, door and window (design, types, construction, instalment, energy-efficiency); - Finalization (plaster, hanging facades, horizontal surfaces treatment); - Vertical communication systems (stairs, ramps, elevators).

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures Seminar Seminar work Field trip

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

- use the technical knowledge regarding the implementation of individual building elements and assemblies in architectural design representation; - summarize the basic regulations on the architectural elements design from a technical and design point of view; - prepare the architectural design for a more complex individual family house; - design appropriate project solutions in the architecture plan, including the detailing of the facade section plan.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- to identify the simple and more complex design and construction characteristics of architectural elements in their integration into building systems; - to use the knowledge of architectural drawings in the project design work.
