Objectives and competences

to inform about different viewpoints of the interior design to focus on different elements of design (geometry, light, color,..), which define and create the interior space and to prove effects within practical case-studies to deepen knowledge about historical and contemporary approach of design and understanding of the interior space.

Content (Syllabus outline)

LECTURES introduction, architecture and interior design, dialectics of outside and inside interior space and humans, living comfort, human senses, social logic of space planning process, plan of the interior, concepts, characteristics interior design vocabulary and elements: volume, functionality, composition and geometry, communication, light design, color studies, acoustics, materials, textures, furnishings,... basics of pictography overview of the historical epochs in interior, contemporary trends characteristic examples of different interiors: housing, public buildings, exhibition spaces,... interior – regional characteristics, ethnology and style (cultural influences of Europe, Asia, Africa,…) interior – contemporary interventions, installations, pavilions, virtual spaces, high-tech, low-tech urban furniture – urban ambients, art installations, ‘do-it-yourself’ furniture EXERCISES Exercises improve the content of the lectures with examples of analysis and planning of the interior space as well as practical experience with ‘do-it yourself’ furniture.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

student will assimilate fundamental knowledge in the field of understanding and planning the interior space and its elements student will be able to evaluate the complex meaning of the interior space as a physical, functional, social, cultural component
