Objectives and competences

? understand the issue of vulnerability of social groups in correlation with the architecture of their living environments, ? understand the issue of vulnerability in the context of specific conditions in correlation with the architecture of living environments, ? be able to interpret the architectural features of living environments for vulnerable groups, ? identify the architectural characteristics of resilient living environments, ? analyze and asses examples of vulnerable living environments, ? be able to interpret the indicators of social regenerative architecture.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. General social issues related to the need for architectural modifications of the living environment. 2. Aspects of the regenerative living environment architecture: ? social aspect ? environmental aspect ? economic aspect 3. Definition of vulnerability in the context of social groups and their living environments with a focus on social regenerative architecture 4. Specific topics related to the vulnerability of social groups (children, the elderly, refugees, socially deprived groups, …) 5. Specific topics related to human health and well-being 6. Definition of vulnerability in the context of specific situations (epidemics, terrorism, refugee issues, natural disasters) with a focus on social regenerative architecture 7. Overview of architectural characteristics of living environments for vulnerable groups - building and nearby open space: ? institutional care environment for the elderly ? preschool environments ? educational environments ? temporary / alternative living environments 8. Regenerative architectural measures Best practice examples with emphasis on social regenerative architecture indicators 9. Strategies and concepts of resilient architecture

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures and seminar are carried out with the following teaching methods: - powerpoint projection or display, - discussion, - work with photographs, drawings, - case study. Seminar: - workshop with participants from vulnerable neighbourhoods - implementation of intermediate presentations with analysis of project work. Field exercises: - site visit – case studies Some parts of lectures can be provided by experts from practice selected by the course lecturer. Parts of the lectures and seminars can be held in the observed environment.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: ? describe general social issues related to the need for architectural modifications of the living environment, ? identify the aspects of the quality living environment, ? define the concept of vulnerability in the context of social groups and their living environments, ? define the concept of vulnerability in the context of specific situations, ? explain the architectural features of living environments for vulnerable groups, ? explain the characteristics of the resilience architecture, ? use the acquired knowledge for independent analysis and assessment of examples of vulnerable living environments and make proposals for regenerative measures.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

? Communication skills: oral defense of a seminar work, intermediate presentations of a seminar work. Use of information technology: use of tools to review the scientific literature.
