Objectives and competences
Students will:
• identify nutrient needs by looking at production type and animal category
• able to find and prepare nutritional standards for individual categories of animals
• in production, they will be able to adapt the feed preparation according to the set production goals
• able to link the physiological parameters of animals and the performance of alternative raw materials in animal nutrition
Content (Syllabus outline)
Dietary patterns
Anatomy and physiology of the digestive system
Digestion of food
• effects on digestion of feed
Nutritional strategies and adaptation
Nutrient requirements
• nutrients, digestion and absorption
Protein and digestion
Amino acids bioavailability (essential, biosynthesis of protein, protein quality, …)
Lipids
Energy
(units, theoretical equation of energy balance, energy in feed, energy demands of domestic animals, metabolism demands, growth, milk production and fat stores,….)
Carbohydrates
Mineral
• mineral demands (deficiency and overdoses
• methods for estimation of mineral bioavailability
• Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Mg, Su, Se, Zn,…
• Vitamin
• water-soluble vitamins
• fat-soluble vitamins
Nutrition of pigs (gravidity, lactation, weaning, post weaning fattening, fattening, nutrition of breeding swines and boars).
Nutrition of poultry (layers, broilers, hens and chickens, breeding hens and cocks).
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures will take place in the classroom using modern teaching aids, techniques and programs to calculate the nutrient supply of animals. Exercises will be conducted in the laboratory, classroom and viewed in the context of modern methods of non-ruminants nutrition.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and understanding:
• they will be critical in judging the justifiable use of individual feed mixtures according to the type of animal breeding
• they will be able to respond to nutrition issues in animal husbandry
• they will be able to adapt nutritional requirements to production
• they will be able to integrate and use alternative nutrient sources
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
