Objectives and competences
Students learn basic irrigation, about the concept of water in the soil and its impact on plants. Special emphasis is placed on evaluating the requirements of plants by water, water utilization and irrigation methods.
The students learn the main parts of an irrigation system.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• basics of hydrology and hydrometry
• water balance
• drainage systems
• evaporation and evapotranspiration
• determination of the available quantity of water in
the ground
• measurement of rainfall and determination of effective water
• measurement and use of infiltration, infiltration
• soil properties
• calculation of the efficiency of irrigation
• determination of irrigation needs, calculation of irrigation cycle and irrigation time
• main parts of the stable irrigation system slurry drill
• droplets and sprays
Learning and teaching methods
lectures, lab work, field work
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
After the successful completion of the course the student should know how to evaluate the water quantity in the soil, evapotranspiration according to the given weather variables by the Penman method. Based on the requirements of the irrigation system, the students select sprinklers, laterals, mainlines and pumps. The same process is repeated for the drip irrigation system.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
